The Christian Left Needs You now More Than Ever

Wikipedia says this about The Christian Left:

“In the United States, the Christian Left does not seem to be so well-organized or publicized as its right-wing counterpart. Opponents state this is because it is less numerous. Supporters contend that it is actually more numerous but composed predominantly of persons less willing to voice political views. Further, supporters contend that the Christian Left has had relatively little success securing widespread corporate, political, and major media patronage compared to the Right.”

Isn’t it time for this to change? It’s time we stand up as a community and express our political views. Look what happens when we don’t. We can’t depend on outside support. We have to support ourselves from within. We can’t let The “Christian” Right speak for us any longer. The results have been catastrophic.

God makes it abundantly clear through the OT Prophets, through Jesus and through many New Testament writers like James (brother of Jesus) that we are to defend the weak and the oppressed. We are to speak up for those with no voice. We are to care for the poor, the sick, the homeless, the hungry, the oppressed, the incarcerated, and basically anyone who lacks fundamental necessities or rights. These are not instructions intended only for individuals. God gets very upset with nations, city-states and kings who ignore these requirements throughout the OT.

As a country we are about to throw all of the people God demanded we protect under the bus. The programs these people rely on to survive are about to be handed to Wall Street or gutted and decimated. All of this will be thanks to Republican party policy. We're about to hand rich oppressors big rewards and tell the least of these they are on their own. If anything ever brings the wrath of God down on our nation it will be this. We’ve been warned by history so many times, and yet we always seem to re-build the golden calf.

You would think Christians would be gearing up to stand in the way of all this. Such is not the case. Sadly, purveyors of deceit have managed to equate Christianity and right-wing ideology as one and the same in a majority of “Christian” minds. Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell will now operate at the speed of light to get their agenda pushed through. It is now more important than ever for this ministry and this community to survive and thrive. We must remain a lighthouse on a hill as the perfect storm gathers.

This week a top House Republican introduced a bill to gut Social Security. Paul Ryan, Speaker of the House, said he wants to privatize Medicare. Republicans want to 'Block Grant' Medicaid to the states, which would dramatically reduce health care for the poor. They say they want to erase Obamacare on day 1. All of Trump's cabinet picks want to destroy the very thing they would be in charge of.

This is a wholesale abandonment of the least of these and a massive sell-off of the government to Wall Street. Trump will do whatever gains him the most praise from those who surround him, which will be far-right henchmen.

Who is going to speak up about any of this? The alleged "Christians" in this country won't. They're cheering all this on. It looks like we have to step up. If we don't, who will? We should all view this opportunity as a blessing. We get to  have the privilege of engaging in the Lord's work!

Now is the time to stand strong, with a new resolve, or it will get much worse. Now that right-wing extremism has grown stronger we must all stand in the gap, especially given that most “Christians” now accept it as their core ideology. In the present darkness, we must increase the light. We must speak up now more than ever: Right-wing ideology and the teachings of Jesus are opposite in nature. They can’t be reconciled on any level.

A Note Of Encouragement From David McReynolds

Friends, comrades, we all are depressed about Trump - and with good reason. An egomaniac, a pathological liar, a bully, a really bad example of how little taste people with "new money" can be.
We can't believe people are voting for him. But do not give up hope.

This country has survived decades during which women could not vote and slavery was legal. We lived through the jailing of people because they would not serve in the military, or because they had the wrong (which is to say "left") politics. We survived McCarthy.

Most of you remember the massive Civil Rights movement with the death and violence. And you can remember the heartbreak of the Vietnam War, the men sent to prison or into exile. The veterans who came home, broken and needed our support.

We survived. There are a lot of really good people in this country.
Our job is not just to struggle against the insanity of Trump, but not to give up hope. To remember the songs and music we had in past years. Do not let Trump (or the GOP, which had opened the door for Trump) get you down. March on with good humor, songs, and remembering that what makes us what we are is not  that we are certain of victory, but that we will not give up. Not now. Not ever.

Viral Video Asks the Question, “Has America Gone Insane?” — The Answer is Yes

By Matt Agorist on February 22, 2016
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. - Jiddu Krishnamurti
In America today, police officers kill more people every in a day than most countries kill in years. In America today, parents face being locked in a cage for trying to treat their sick child with a plant. In America today, presidential candidates on both sides of the two-party system are cheered on as they call for an end to your rights.

Has America gone insane? By any rational measure, the answer to that question is yes.

Thanks to decades of meddling in the Middle East by the US government, acting on behalf of their special interests, there is a very credible threat of World War 3. Russia is actually contemplating the use of nuclear weapons to fight an enemy that was created, built and is supported by US interests. As global stock markets plummet, weapons production and sales are skyrocketing.

For the majority Americans, the United States political system is seen as a football game. Any time their party is in power, it’s as if they are ‘winning’ and the other party or team is ‘losing.’ But what most Americans fail to see is that both ‘teams’ have the same owner. That owner cares not about which one of their teams is ‘winning,’ just so long as its one of their teams in the game. War and the police state be damned.

War and the police state be damned.

This ‘owner’ of the teams is not a single person, nor a single corporation, or focus group, or think tank. Despite the best efforts of Alex Jones and the like, the owners of government cannot be nailed down to just a few old rich men. This is because the owners can be anyone.

The US political system is set up in such a manner that it allows for anyone with enough money to steer policy that benefits them personally. Politicians are hardly particular when it comes to who’s throwing money at them, so ownership is constantly in a state of flux.

The Us versus Them mentality tricks good people into thinking war criminals like Hillary Clinton, George Bush, and Barack Obama are righteous leaders. Insanity and violence are justified, just so long as they’re initiated by your winning team.

The controlled politicians, the rigged system, and the elite are not some vast conspiracy either. They are a tendency of the state in general. As long as a system exists that allows government force to be bought and sold for the benefit and privilege of a few, these atrocities will continue.

Until Americans wake up to this fact, the quest for empire will continue to drive the expansion of war. The slaughter of innocence will proceed and our very right to exist will be trampled — all of this — in the name of ‘Freedom.

The good news is that it doesn’t take a majority of people to wake up to stop this madness and the number of those unplugging from the matrix are increasing daily.

Americans will not become free when the police state goes away. Instead, the police state will go away, only, when Americans become free.

Brazil Ends Monsanto Linked Pesticide Use to Fight Zika After It’s Exposed as Cause of Birth Defects

On Sunday, the Free Thought Project reported on the recent information released by the Physicians in the Crop-Sprayed Towns (PCST), who revealed that the Brazilian government’s assertion that microcephaly was caused by the Zika virus was not substantial. PCST exposed a popular larvacide pyriproxyfen to be the actual suspect.

The chemical, pyriproxyfen, was added to the state of Pernambuco’s drinking-water reservoirs in 2014, by the Brazilian Ministry of Health, in an effort to stop the proliferation of the Zika-carrying Aedes aegypti mosquito.
The report by PCST revealed that the pesticide, sold under the commercial name SumiLarv, is manufactured by Sumitomo Chemical, a Japanese subsidiary of Monsanto.
“Pyriproxyfen is a growth inhibitor of mosquito larvae, which alters the development process from larva to pupa to adult, thus generating malformations in developing mosquitoes and killing or disabling them. It acts as an insect juvenile hormone or juvenoid, and has the effect of inhibiting the development of adult insect characteristics (for example, wings and mature external genitalia) and reproductive development. It is an endocrine disruptor and is teratogenic (causes birth defects).

“Malformations detected in thousands of children from pregnant women living in areas where the Brazilian state added pyriproxyfen to drinking water is not a coincidence, even though the Ministry of Health places a direct blame on Zika virus for this damage, while trying to ignore its responsibility and ruling out the hypothesis of direct and cumulative chemical damage caused by years of endocrine and immunological disruption of the affected population,” according to the report by Physicians in the Crop-Sprayed Towns.
In a move that would never happen in America, the Brazilian government actually listened to the group of doctors and suspended the use of pyriproxyfen, pending further study.

In a communique, the state government said that “the suspension was communicated to the 19 Regional Health Coordinating Authorities, which in turn will inform the respective Municipal Monitoring services” in all cities in the state, according to Fox News Latino.

Up until now, Brazilian scientists have been attributing the increase in microcephaly to the Zika virus. However, on Sunday, Rio Grande do Sul Health Secretary Joao Gabbardo said that, despite the fact that a relationship between the larvicide and microcephaly has not been proven, the “suspicion” that there may be a linkage had led the organizations to decide to “suspend” the use of the chemical.

“We cannot run that risk,” Gabbardo said.

Of course, this news is being met with backlash by those who have advocated adding this larvicide to the water supply.

“That is a rumor lacking logic and sense. It has no basis. (The larvicide) is approved by (the National Sanitary Monitoring Agency) and is used worldwide. Pyriproxyfen is recognized by all regulatory agencies in the whole world,” Health Minister Marcelo Castro told reporters Sunday.

Also, the Monsanto affiliate, Sumitomo Chemical also claimed that “there is no scientific basis for such a claim,” adding that the product has been approved by the World Health Organization since 2004 and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency since 2001.

The fact the WHO has officially gone on record and stated that microcephaly is not linked directly to the Zika virus has been of little consequence to the Health Secretary. Also of little consequence to the Health Secretary, is that there haven’t been any cases of microcephaly attributed to the Zika virus in past outbreaks.
According to the report by PCST:
Previous Zika epidemics did not cause birth defects in newborns, despite infecting 75% of the population in those countries. Also, in other countries such as Colombia there are no records of microcephaly; however, there are plenty of Zika cases.
The caution and proactive response by the Brazilian government are noteworthy and should serve as an example to officials in the United States who continue to expose citizens to a myriad of toxic chemicals banned in countries across the planet.

Indictment

The Back Story

Don't ya just love stories and statements that start with:
I'm not prejudiced against xyz, but...
Well, this is one of them.

I honestly do not have a problem at all with Jews. Some of my greatest spiritual teachers were Jews. I DO, however, have a problem with Zionism and anyone who is hawkish when it comes to jumping the gun on military action against anyone else based on nationalism or racism. And, frankly, a LOT of Christians fill that bill. I don't like them either.

As an aside, Christian Zionists actually baffle me. I get the whole forgiveness teaching. But Jews KILLED Christianity's Savior. And, as I understand it, they still have not accepted Jesus. Yet, these deluded "Christians" actually revere Israel! I think dumping them back into the middle east after WWII was one of the biggest mistakes mankind has ever committed.

With that being said, today's Bible Verse is:
Leviticus 20:22
22‘You shall therefore keep all My statutes and all My judgments, and perform them, that the land where I am bringing you to dwell may not vomit you out.

Guess what. They didn't keep God's statutes and judgments, and the land vomited them out.

They have a long collective history of believing that they are better than everyone else. And plopping them back into the middle of the Middle East was like burning your yard leaves right next to your car full of fireworks and dynamite.

I know this is not a very popular perspective. But it is what it is. Just sayin'...

Feeling the Bern yet?

I just have one question for Sanders supporters: how do you think he'll get any of his revolutionary ideas, such as single payer health care and reigning in banks, corporations, and Wall Street, past an insane Congress who are, for the most part, bought and paid for? Seriously.

Reactionaries

When I think of the term reactionaries I think of the right. I am surrounded on all sides by Evangelical Christian Republicans. They are my neighbours, friends and family.

I even go to a little country church, half the congregation being blood relatives and the rest generational family friends. I have to regularly listen to their slamming of anything left of far right! I have to listen to it coming from the pulpit. I have to listen to it all without being able to even open a dialogue with them about any of it because they are so far gone. It would only serve to hurt my relationship with them.

And I don't consider myself Christian... at least, not their definition of Christian. And besides, it's the only place I can socialize with people who aren't drug addicts and alcoholics (and even those social pariahs are reactionary right!). My spirituality has little to do with my attending church services in my view. But I could never tell them that.

And there are locals who know I am somehow different but are not sure how so they invent horrible gosip to spread about me.

So, here I am - a radical leftist - attempting to carry on a life with some human interaction with people who would literally shun me if they knew my true political and spiritual leanings.

For years I have tried to find online groups with whom I could share ideas and support. And I have failed miserably at that endeavour. Primarily because I see no need for verbal confrontation among groups who are purportedly working toward the same goals. Debate? Yes. Confrontation? No.

I have come to realize that there is such a thing as the reactionary left. And they have no reservations about getting into a word dual over nothing in what I refer to as drive by. They find me, pick me, and attack me for absolutely no reason. They are simply mad and take it out on whoever is near.

I get enough of that from the fascist element on Twitter. There I am regularly called every hateful name one could think of. But when I am subjected to it in an alleged left political group... well, I feel no reason to stay. And I begin to understand why the left can't get off the ground, politically speaking.

They are just as confrontational, petty and hateful as anything I've seen come from the right.

So, I left the Communist Party USA, the Green Party, and the Socialist Party USA. Now, I am even forced to leave the Socialist Party USA Facebook Open Forum... all because people are so angry they attack their allies.

I have no one anywhere to speak freely about political or spiritual matters with. I belong no where.  I feel alone, lonely, and sad. For both me and our species.
