A Note Of Encouragement From David McReynolds

Friends, comrades, we all are depressed about Trump - and with good reason. An egomaniac, a pathological liar, a bully, a really bad example of how little taste people with "new money" can be.
We can't believe people are voting for him. But do not give up hope.

This country has survived decades during which women could not vote and slavery was legal. We lived through the jailing of people because they would not serve in the military, or because they had the wrong (which is to say "left") politics. We survived McCarthy.

Most of you remember the massive Civil Rights movement with the death and violence. And you can remember the heartbreak of the Vietnam War, the men sent to prison or into exile. The veterans who came home, broken and needed our support.

We survived. There are a lot of really good people in this country.
Our job is not just to struggle against the insanity of Trump, but not to give up hope. To remember the songs and music we had in past years. Do not let Trump (or the GOP, which had opened the door for Trump) get you down. March on with good humor, songs, and remembering that what makes us what we are is not  that we are certain of victory, but that we will not give up. Not now. Not ever.

Fascist Values

The FACT that the governments of American allies are seriously debating measures to BAN Donald Trump from entering their countries should tell his American supporters just how out of touch his, and by extension their, values really are.

From the asses mouth: #DonaldTrump says wages are too high

.@BernieSanders-who blew his campaign when he gave Hillary a pass on her e-mail crime, said that I feel wages in America are too high. Lie!

He forgets we record the shit that spews from his mouth.

Whopper (Liar) Of The Year

Personally, I rely on the old saying "A politician is lying when their lips are moving." But it's always refreshing to browse the doozies one finds over at FactCheck.org.

"It’s been a banner year for political whoppers — and for one teller of tall tales in particular: "Donald Trump.
In the 12 years of FactCheck.org’s existence, we’ve never seen his match.

"He stands out not only for the sheer number of his factually false claims, but also for his brazen refusals to admit error when proven wrong...

"But Trump topped them all when he claimed to have seen nonexistent television coverage of “thousands and thousands” of Muslims in New Jersey cheering the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 — and then topped himself by demanding that fact-checkers apologize for exposing his claim as fantasy. And that’s only one example."

Donald Trump on waterboarding: ‘If it doesn’t work, they deserve it anyway.’

This is a dangerous man.Well, I don't really think that he is that dangerous. It's the hatred, bigotry, racism, and the like that he emboldens in others that is the real danger.

We've all known that there is a special kind of stupid present in the United States that is lacking in such profound abundance in other parts of the world. The only solace for me has been that for the most part people were ashamed to display such vile in such open forums before. In Donald Trump's mega-ego maniacal quest for riches, fame, and power he is willing to say things out loud that a sane person feeling these emotions would know to keep to their selves.

He's a Hitler with a nuclear warhead. He's a Jim Jones. He's a Bush with a brain.
"Would I approve waterboarding? You bet your ass I would —
in a heartbeat," Trump said to loud cheers during a rally at a
convention center here Monday night that attracted thousands. "And I
would approve more than that. Don't kid yourself, folks. It works, okay?
It works. Only a stupid person would say it doesn't work."

Trump
said such techniques are needed to confront terrorists who "chop off
our young people's heads" and "build these iron cages, and they'll put
20 people in them and they drop them in the ocean for 15 minutes and
pull them up 15 minutes later."

"It works," Trump said
over and over again. "Believe me, it works. And you know what? If it
doesn't work, they deserve it anyway, for what they're doing. It works."
