Democratic Primary
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and predict that if Bernie wins the primary the youth vote will carry him to the White House just like it did POTUS. The Hillary Camp doesn't have that same juice. She's establishment. Everyone is turning anti-establishment... on both sides of the isle. Many probably wouldn't vote against her; they just wouldn't vote. I don't think that's a risk the left can take.
Whopper (Liar) Of The Year
Personally, I rely on the old saying "A politician is lying when their lips are moving." But it's always refreshing to browse the doozies one finds over at FactCheck.org.
"It’s been a banner year for political whoppers — and for one teller of tall tales in particular: "Donald Trump. In the 12 years of FactCheck.org’s existence, we’ve never seen his match."He stands out not only for the sheer number of his factually false claims, but also for his brazen refusals to admit error when proven wrong..."But Trump topped them all when he claimed to have seen nonexistent television coverage of “thousands and thousands” of Muslims in New Jersey cheering the collapse of the World Trade Center towers on 9/11 — and then topped himself by demanding that fact-checkers apologize for exposing his claim as fantasy. And that’s only one example."

The Illusion of Two Parties
The real but hidden sinister beauty of the two party system in the United States lies not only in its air of either/or limitations forced on its electorate but in the fact that while the actual electoral tally is bought, sold, and otherwise manipulated behind the scenes to achieve outcomes sought only by the rich and powerful, the voters of the popular election are left blaming each other for outcomes that were never within their power to change in the first place. Being forced always to choose the lesser of two evils leaves them ever needing to express their helpless frustration and anger toward someone. So, they direct those energies toward the only visible target: each other. And the invisible rulers laugh at the ignorance of their subjects.

Just Another Day In Chicago
What I, and so many others, wonder is why and when lethal force became the "go to" tactic of those who proudly claim as their motto "to serve and protect"?
Is it really that unreasonable for the public to generally distrust an armed gang who clearly regularly shoots first and questions later?
Is it really so difficult to understand why the black community feels targeted with this kind of aggression? What is the black to white ratio of victims of this kind of tragic accidental discharge of multiple rounds into a single, unarmed suspect.
Is the police state really so dense that they cannot see the validity of these concerns?

Perspective
Regardless of your party affiliation, the American appetite for bombing foreign sounding places because, well, they sound foreign speaks volumes to why the world hates America... and it ain't for "ar freedums". It's because we're stupid and have WMD's.
I'm, of course, referring to recent articles reporting that an uncomfortable number of BOTH Democrats and Republican voters support bombing a fictional Walt Disney country from Aladdin.

Feel The Bern?
I found Bernie to be a refreshing voice in the wilderness until a faction of the Democrat Party began to push him as a serious contender.
Sadly, anyone who has entered the sham we call American Politics and pretended it is anything but a sham cannot, in my humble opinion, be taken seriously. He has his share of skeletons - Israel and the defense industry among them.
But for Hillary, of all people, to accuse him of inappropriate handling of data is disingenuous at best. She is the epitome of dirty deedsmanship!

Donald Trump on waterboarding: ‘If it doesn’t work, they deserve it anyway.’
This is a dangerous man.Well, I don't really think that he is that dangerous. It's the hatred, bigotry, racism, and the like that he emboldens in others that is the real danger.
We've all known that there is a special kind of stupid present in the United States that is lacking in such profound abundance in other parts of the world. The only solace for me has been that for the most part people were ashamed to display such vile in such open forums before. In Donald Trump's mega-ego maniacal quest for riches, fame, and power he is willing to say things out loud that a sane person feeling these emotions would know to keep to their selves.
He's a Hitler with a nuclear warhead. He's a Jim Jones. He's a Bush with a brain.

"Would I approve waterboarding? You bet your ass I would —
in a heartbeat," Trump said to loud cheers during a rally at a
convention center here Monday night that attracted thousands. "And I
would approve more than that. Don't kid yourself, folks. It works, okay?
It works. Only a stupid person would say it doesn't work."
Trump
said such techniques are needed to confront terrorists who "chop off
our young people's heads" and "build these iron cages, and they'll put
20 people in them and they drop them in the ocean for 15 minutes and
pull them up 15 minutes later."
"It works," Trump said
over and over again. "Believe me, it works. And you know what? If it
doesn't work, they deserve it anyway, for what they're doing. It works."

Healthcare.com Crashes
I can't help wondering why, when everyone knows that increased traffic on any website increases the chances that it may crash, people wait until the deadline to enroll in a program that they need anyway and could very well save their life.
I'd suggest that it is a diabolical right wing conspiracy to do exactly that - crash the healthcare.gov site. The only problem with this scenario is the fact that I sincerely doubt that Republicans are collectively smart enough for this kind of subversion.

Welcome - and a brief introduction
Welcome to my new blog, On My Portside. While I begin to add content here, please feel free to visit some of my other sites listed in the navigation bar.
If it isn't clear from the title of this blog, my focus hear will be about living life from a leftist perspective. More specifically, it will be observations about living among conservative Christians and the Tea Party type. I also offer some observations of this nature on some of my other sites, however, I feel compelled to take yet another perspective on many of the same subjects.
There are some fine people who fit this description, many of which I simply choose to believe are merely brainwashed and therefore not responsible for their distorted views on life and politics.
